Meet Wessel van Dijk, the dynamic, speedy forward with explosive tackling abilities and extraordinary ball handling skills.
I was born in the Netherlands, but at the age of six moved to South Africa with my parents. Here, rugby is an important part of the country's culture, so I thought I'd try out the game.
I played in a tournament for an under eight team and the coaches of the opposite teams approached my mother to ask if I'd play for their teams.
My love for rugby was kindled around then.
At primary school I became one of two players, the first in our school's history, to reach the Eastern Cape U/13 team.
At age 14 the coaches at my school asked whether I'd be willing to compete in the U/16 provincial trials. Unfortunately, despite my talent, I was deemed too young, and my progress to the top was hampered.
I was invited twice to High Performance trials while at high school.
I have a passion for the sport; I was made for it; I'm a hard runner and my size counts in my favour.
I go into a tackle full force. I'm 100% committed. I'm a good offloader. For that matter, I think I'm a well-rounded player. I know where the ball's going to bounce and where the game's headed.
I also play rugby sevens, a version of the game I started partaking in at age 15. Although I prefer 15s, sevens helps me keep nimble.
I'd love to play rugby in Europe. I have a European passport, which means I can easily play for any team in any of the countries that belong to the EU.
I believe I have what it takes to take your team to the next level.
